OIS Showcase

Oamaru Intermediate Talent Showcase 2019

Are you the next Mariah Carey? The next Justin Bieber? Do you juggle, mime or play a
musical instrument? The time has come for Oamaru Intermediate School to hold its
annual talent showcase! Read on to find all about it…

What?
The OIS Talent Showcase is your chance to perform and show off any special talents
you may have. You could do this as an individual or as a group. You need to be able to
perform and entertain the audience for a minimum of 2 minutes, and a maximum of 3
minutes. Talents could include:
  • Singing or playing a musical instrument

  • Miming or acting

  • Making a speech

  • Dancing

  • Juggling or performing magic/card/sleight of hand tricks.

  • Acrobatics

  • Stand-up comedy

  • A video of you doing parkour, diving etc.

If you have a special talent, and you are unsure if it is right for showcase, have a talk
with your teacher and/or Miss Paterson to see if it is up the right alley.

Performances are expected to be of a VERY HIGH quality. You need to be fully prepared
and committed to your performance. For this reason each class will hold its own round
of auditions. Everyone is expected to perform in front of their class - house points will
be up for grabs! Although this is not a competition, there will be special awards given out
at assembly for the audience’s choice, and for the most entertaining performance.

After the initial auditions each class will put forward their best 1-3 acts. Miss Paterson will
then meet with these performers and hold practices for the final showcase in week 8. If your
performance is not deemed up to standard, you may not be performing in the final showcase.

When?
Weeks 2-3: Classes need to hold their auditions and record the names of students performing
in the final showcase on THIS document.
Week 4: Any available year 8s to practice with Miss Paterson before they go on camp.
Weeks 6-7: Miss Paterson will hold lunchtime practice sessions to polish acts.

Showcase will be held on Friday 6th December from 1.30pm to 3pm (week 8).

If you have any questions please get in touch with Miss Paterson.

100 Word Challenge Week4

Latest prompt
Since we came back from our short trip to Honfleur in northern France, I’ve been struck down with VERTIGO.
I had always thought you only got that if you were on a hugh building looking down! Sadly, that is not the case & at the moment I’m not really safe to go walking on my own. It looks like I might have had too many glasses of wine!
Anyway, I thought it was a great opportunity for a prompt for you all to write about. It is:
… as I turned my head, the world spun…
Things to think about:
  • What has happened to you?
  • Where are you?
  • What does it feel like?
  • What will you do?
Remember to submit the link of your blog post on the 100 WC website.

Sad day

To all the bloggers

No doubt you will have heard of the terrible shootings in our city of Christchurch.

I just want to say – this is NOT New Zealand, it is NOT who we are, and to quote our Prime Minister, the shooters are NOT us and have NO place in this country.

To all the families of New Zealanders, new and old – our hearts go out to you.

Kia Kaha (stay strong) Christchurch – Kia Kaha (stay strong) New Zealand. Aroha nui.

Sending our love,
Room 14 OIS

This morning, Oamaru Intermediate School held a special assembly to knowledge and show our support towards the victims and Christchurch community.

To acknowledge that OIS is ONE, we released 24 balloons, symbolising the 24 cultures that make up OUR school.

Today and everyday we will be good, we will be great and we will be KIND.
